Barrington Tops was a unique experience on the Loka tour. We first went to the Winery to do some tasting of the different samples from the region. We drank a variety of different white wines which were quite nice but I was not going to pretend I knew what I was talking about when the guide said can you taste the "woodiness' in the glass... err NO! The dessert wine was lovely and sweet and was perhaps the only one I would have bought for a reasonable $10, however I stuck to the cider in the end.
When we reached the accommodation at the top of a rolling hill in the valley, we found out that the river was unfortunately low, so going down the river tubing was going to be a rough ride! The water was pretty cold and we ended up wading on the bottom of the bed with our feet to keep moving down the small waterfalls. Liam had pulled the short straw and ended up with a tube that sank below water level when he sat on it, which looked like he was levitating on water going downstream.
The pool you can see in the picture was literally just finished before we arrived, so sharing a beer with everyone whilst looking out at an amazing view was awesome as the sun disappeared behind the rolling hills.
A game of 'stack em' in the evening led to me drinking way to much goon which started to take effect within minutes of my light weight endurance. The evening was topped off by a huntsman spider revealing itself from the back of the dart board, as you can imagine, I legged it pretty quickly to close the bedroom door.
This was the first time in Australia where I had been somewhere that was really rural. I enjoyed the relaxing scenery compared to the hustle and bustle of Sydney. The view from breakfast was stunning to say the least and I would definitely visit here again. It was the perfect way to bond with everyone at the start of our 3 week journey up the east coast on the tour.
