We stayed at the Shakespeare hostel in the center of the city for 2 weeks. Admittedly the city was never on the to do list however I am glad we stayed. I think the city is very underrated and does not get as much coverage on the backpackers map compared to the east coast.
The new Adelaide Oval is a dramatic sight across the Murray River. I can imagine the atmosphere is incredible when the Strikers are playing in the Big Bash league. The pathway along the river is very pretty and has an Oxford feel to it with boat clubs sprung across the bank and cycle paths wrapping around both sides of the bank. Black swans and Herons are the main attraction on the river which is a decent 5km stroll on a warm day.
The travel company Peter Pans rent out bikes for free to explore the city for a 4 hour slot. The bikes which are similar to the Bicing or Boris Bikes are pretty good to say they are free and there are plenty of bike lanes along the river and city center. We went to check out the old f1 circuit, which has now been turned into a running, and cycling track so there is little of what remains from the original street circuit. We looked around Adelaide market, which is open once every fortnight. It is a pretty small operation but has a few food vendors and antiques dealers. If you are struggling for something to do, it is a perfect place to look around for free.

Kristen and I decided to treat our selves to a Krispy Kreme doughnut and coffee to keep our spirits up after job searching for nearly 2 weeks. Well there goes the days budget! We decided to walk to the botanic Gardens and have a look around the water features and sculptures. There were thousands of Fox bats nesting in the trees that sounded like a constant car alarm going off and a variety of migrating birds. The gardens are a nice distraction from the city which sits behind but is quite small and can be covered in 20 minutes.
The highlight of our stay was having a Churros platter at San Churro. It was the perfect way to end our time in the city which was nice but again it felt like a working city and not too much to do for people passing through.
