We booked into the Witches Hat hostel in Northbridge in the suburbs near Hyde park costing $22 per night. The converted house was pretty nice and spacious with 6 dorm maximum rooms hosting wooden floors; pretty fancy for the price. The hostel also included free Tea and Coffee as well as a free continental Breakfast, result!
The city has expanded rapidly over the last ten years according to the locals I spoke to who were keen to show me the best places to go in the harbor area and also places such as Kings park to visit. The first sight seeing trip I went on was to see the legendary WACA. It is not on the same size or scale as the MCG, however it has its own charm and creates a formidable atmosphere for when the England cricket team are in town.

You can catch the CAT buses in the CBD which are free to use on the Red, Blue, Green and Yellow line which take you full circle around the city area and is a great way to save time and money if you are travelling on the cheap.
We went for a picnic and walk around Kings Park which is one of the landmarks looking over the city. As we walked up the pathway a group of people were congregating on mass, I wondered what was going on to find out that everybody was playing Pokemon Go… Christ!
The views from the memorial statue are fantastic and you can see far along the Swan river heading out towards Freemantle and the sea. The Glass bridge is well worth taking a detour to walk over and the grass banks next to the water fountain is a nice relaxing place to chill out away from the city.

Following the walking route around to the south bank was definitely my favourite view of the city skyline. The Boatshed Café does fantastic coffees and cake for a reasonable price and is in an ideal location to watch the boats pass by.
The train is very cheap to Cottesloe beach costing $4.50 each way and is a great afternoon out. Although the weather wasn’t the best while we were there, the beach was still a nice walk and the Indian Tea Rooms stands out from the landscape. It started to hail (In the Australian spring!) so we retreated inside to the Il Lido Café. It is in a prime location set back from the main beach and is worth going for a coffee although the food menu did look a little pricey but it does have the feel of a posh wine bar, so I guess you pay for the environment.
With a little more time and money or should I say a job, I would have stayed in the city a lot longer than 2 weeks. Overall this is one of my favourite places so far.
