First stop of the day, Lake Nelson. We jolted out of Tasman after getting stuck on the first hill of the day because of a clutch that was none existent. The lake was like a postcard with mountains protruding all the way around and a small pier sits lonely next to the edge which has been made famous by many travellers’ photos pulling different poses whilst looking out into the distance.
We had 45 minutes to take in the views which were rudely interrupted by a squad of ducks. As we tucked into our make shift sandwiches we were surrounded on all sides. They were not shy either as they crawled all over us to get a corner of our lunches. One was flipped over by Beth which then turned to me and sunk its saber teeth straight into my hand with the power of a Rottweiler. That’s it I thought, there is no chance they are getting anything off me now.

We arrived in the costal town in the late afternoon where we split off. Charlie and myself went to gather food and cook dinner while the other lads helped build a bonfire on the beach. After a very Al dente dinner of chorizo, pasta and cheese sauce we headed down to the beach with beers and marshmallows. The sky was extraordinary as the sunset behind us lighting up the clouds a soft pink tinge. The entire bus gathered around the fire and began toasting/ burning their sweet chewy mouthfuls of joy. After watching others get as near to the fire as they dared without getting singed with the changing wind directions. 3 seconds is all it took to ignite my marshmallow. My mistake was that I was so eager to eat my treat that I burnt the inside of my mouth in the process. I just can’t wait!
